Joann Carswell Patton, 92, of Morganton, NC passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. She was born on September 7, 1934 in Burke County to the late Ralph Samuel Carswell and Dorothy Orders Carswell. Joann was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where she was very involved. She graduated from Salem High School and retired from Western Carolina Center (JIRDC). Joann loved to play Bingo. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who dearly loved her grandchildren, big and small. She was perfect in so many ways!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Carswell; sisters, Doris C. Newton and Vera C. Anderson; grandson, Casey Troy Patton; great-grandchild, Dakota Troy Patton; daughter, Sandra Ann Wellman.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Troy M. Patton; son, Troy Kevin Patton (Pamela); two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; special friends and neighbors, Heather Rector, Paul Franklin, Heather Hicks, Robert and Wade Griffin; and numerous extended family; her Salem UMC family who will miss her dearly.

The family will receive friends from 11am-12pm on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Salem United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at noon in the church with Rev. Monica Childers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church.
