Joan Y. Dickison, 90 of Morganton, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior after an extended illness, Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Born on August 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Bertie and Cassandra Risner. Joan was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School. She grew up in the Spavinaw Area Oklahoma. Joan worked serving for the Mayes County and the state of Oklahoma, then came to North Carolina and worked at UNC Medical School, Deans of the School of Nursing, Department of General Medicine, and was Administrative Assistant to the Founder of AHEC. She was the youngest of 11 children. Joan retired from UNC in 1996 and moved to Morganton and volunteered at BUCM.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Dr. Julie Anne Dickison and husband, Roby Braswell; son, Lance Fain Dickison; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm, Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Burke United Christian Ministries.
