Jo Ann Cook Clay, 85, of Morganton, NC, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Born in Cleveland County, NC on August 20, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Arney Cook and Mamie Elizabeth Towery Cook.

Jo Ann was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She enjoyed yardwork, especially flower and vegetable gardening. Her grandson was the light of her life.

Jo Ann is survived by her daughter, Glenda Clay Burgess (Beau); grandson, Jacob Burgess (Kayla); brother, Shannon Cooke (Lavondia); and sister, Ruth Cook Carswell.

In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Sanders Clay; and three brothers, Earnest, A.M., and Hugh Lee Cooke.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 3, 2023 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
