Jesse David Stump, 68, of Morganton, NC, a Gentle Giant went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 8, 2023. He was born on October 31, 1954 in Catawba County to the late Jesse Stump and Colleen Benfield Stump. He was a member of Poarch Chapel Missionary Methodist Church where he enjoyed operating the sound system. David was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family and always had a smile on his face. He retired from Burke Catawba Detention Facility after seventeen years and also retired from Chesterfield Fire Department as a volunteer fire-fighter and EMT. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. As a final remembrance for the family, David smiled and was able to give his great-grandson a fist bump.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hennessee Stump; children, Renee Smith (Chris), Freddy Kral, Chris Stump (Crystal) and April Stump Payne; grandchildren, Sara Wright (Sam), Christopher Smith, Daphne Wright (Brandon), Haven Chapman, Kiarra Payne, Brayden Stump; great-grandchildren, Sailor Wright, Brittany Clark (Tyler), Kyle Wright, Chance Wright, Mackenzy Wright and Kaleb Wright; six great-great- grandchildren; sister, Cathy Wright; a nephew, two nieces and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 1pm-2pm on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Poarch Chapel Missionary Methodist Church. The service will begin at 2pm in the church with the Revs. Mike Woody and Mike Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
