Jerry Wayne Mace, Sr., 75, of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 following a period of declining health.  Born on February 5, 1943 in Morganton, NC, he was the son of the late Hollis and Arlene “Belle” Mace.  He attended Mt. Pisgah Academy and Glenwood High School.

Jerry married Carolyn Faye Scruggs on February 22, 1963 and recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.  He was a loyal and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.  He truly loved his family.  Mr. Mace was a self-sacrificing individual in the caring and providing of his family and others throughout his life.

He performed many occupations throughout his life but was primarily a farmer, auto body collision repair technician, and co-owner and caregiver at Windy Hill Family Care Home.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and automobile racing.

Those left to cherish Jerry’s memory include his wife, Carolyn of the home; daughter, Lisa (Leon) Trubey; son, Jerry “Bo” (Susan) Mace, Jr.; granddaughters, Jessica (Tyler) Hodges, Jordan Mace, and Madison Trubey; siblings, Frank (Wanda) Mace and Billie Jo Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a lifelong member of Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church.  He enjoyed his church family and looked forward to the second coming of Jesus Christ, when there will be no more strife or sickness.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church.  A celebration of Jerry’s life will follow at 3 p.m. in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2187 Jamestown Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.

The family deeply appreciates the loving care and support provided by the staff of Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
