Jerry Smith, 76, of Morganton, NC passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025. He was born on February 25, 1949 in McDowell County, NC to the late Rans Smith and Louise Benge Ward. He enjoyed working outside in his yard. He also enjoyed playing golf and grilling. Jerry was a big Carolina Panther and Duke fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Smith.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Cathy Ross Smith; daughter, Angela Smith (Willie Bell, Jr.); son, Chris Smith (Sharon); grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Aysia Bell and Aniya Bell; sister, Dianne Patrick; nephew, John Patrick; and extended family.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 2pm-3pm on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

So sorry to hear about Jerry’s passing. He was a large part of my life growing up. He treated me like one of his own. My daddy and him were the best of friends for many years. He was the only person to reach out to me when my father fell ill. I will always love him for that. I am praying for the entire family. It’s so hard to lose the ones we love 💕
