Jerry P. Poovey

Jerry P. Poovey, 82, of Morganton died Friday, January 10, 2014. He was born in Gaston County on January 2, 1932 and was the son of the late Jack Gardner Poovey and Ruth Bumgarner Poovey. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Royal Poovey. Jerry was a graduate of Mars Hill College and Wake Forest University. He received his MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill. He was plant manager for Drexel Furniture and for Hickory Chair. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church and volunteered for many years with the Flynn Christian Fellowship Home.Surviving are his wife, Arcoma "Connie" Gragg Milholen Poovey; his children, Mark N. Poovey of Wilmington, NC and Leah Ruth Poovey of Newton; and a grandson, Eric Poovey.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. and Rev. Ed Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow at Arneys Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
