Janet Marie Nunley Flynn, 63, of Morganton, NC, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022 after a period of declining health. Born in Wayne County, MI on December 18, 1958, to the late Catherine Arney Grady.

Janet’s family moved to Morganton when she was very young. An avid reader, she would walk to the library often growing up, and later to the Muses book store every chance she got. Janet graduated from Freedom High School in 1977 and would later graduate from Western Piedmont Community College. She had been employed at Caterpillar, BASF, and Nature’s Cupboard. Janet selflessly raised her sons and would reminisce fondly on those times. Beyond her boys, she enjoyed her scratch-offs, astrology, chocolate, and spending time with her family and friends. Janet never met a stranger and was always putting others before herself.

Janet leaves behind her two sons, Gabriel Flynn and Elijah Flynn. She also leaves behind many cherished friends and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Allen Nunley, her beloved sandwich stealing dachshund, Hilda, and the man who she considered her father, Pep Mull.

Services for Janet will be held at a later date.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

You’ve been gone from this earth for over a year, you left my life 25ish years ago but you’ve been in my heart since the day I met you as a kid. I haven’t seen you in 13 years and last talked to you about 2 years ago. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have you in my life and that you were so good to me when I was a kid. You meant so much to me. I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas but instead I found out you were already celebrating with Jesus. Until we meet again. I love you Janet. Gabe and Eli I’m so sorry for your loss. Daddy passed in November of 2021 and the pain never really goes away. You had a wonderful mother that I loved as if she were my own mom ❤️

Janet was a friend in high school who I admired because she was intelligent and outspoken. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind and was a great debater. When she married my brother I was thrilled!!! We had a special bond, sharing our love for reading we were always exchanging books. When Eli and Gabe were born it was the most precious time. To me they will always be "baby boys" eve tho they are so very grown up now. Janet loved them intensely and fiercely. And that's the way she lived her life. I will miss you my cherished friend and sister. I love you and will be there for the boys 💖💖 Love, Bette
