On December 12, 2016, after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer, James Ronald Lane, 69, a dear, kind, and gentle man departed this life to embark on a new adventure in the next.  Born August 19, 1947, James Ronald Lane was a devoted husband, father, and stepfather.  He was a well-loved and active member of the Burke Writers League and author of the forthcoming novel, Dead Again, which has an anticipated publication date later in 2017.

James Ronald Lane was preceded in death by his father, Jim Lane, and mother, Helen Lane, and is survived by his wife, Bell Rose Lane of Morganton; his daughters, Manon Lee Lane and Megan Elizabeth Lane, both of Nashville; and his stepchildren, Tammy Browning and her partner, Chuck Causby of Morganton, and Joseph Browning and wife, Rachel Browning also of Morganton.  He leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Katelen Browning, Brandon Browning, Jacob Browning, and Esa Causby.

Mr. Lane worked for many years at the North Carolina Employment Security Commission.  He was a diehard Atlanta Braves Fan and had a love for all movies, especially the classics.  He enjoyed a cutthroat game of Hand and Foot, unapologetically trouncing his companions on a regular basis, and he was not too humble to gloat about it.  Despite his glee at winning card games, he was a consummate gentleman and generous to a fault.  His departure from this life will leave a gap in the hearts of his family and friends that will never be filled.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Judy Eurey officiating.  Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the cemetery of Fairview Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 4 -A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC  27407.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
