James "Jimmie" Fox, 89, of Kingston Residence of Hickory, NC, formerly of Morganton, NC, died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born in Burke County, NC on July 27, 1921, he was the son of the late C. O. Fox and Mary Eunice Mauney Fox. Jimmie was a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served as a vestry member for over 25 years. Jimmie was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, during which he was a crew member of a B-24 Liberator that completed 38 combat missions over Europe. He was also a longtime member of the Morganton Lion’s Club. Jimmie was employed by Home Laundry prior to WWII, and returned there as manager after the war. He later became owner and operated Holiday Laundry and Dry Cleaning. The last twenty years of his career was spent in sales with Piedmont Paper Company of Asheville.Jimmie is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Fox of Morganton and Jo Anne Mason and husband, Marty, of Hickory; grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Mason and Anne Kathryn Mason; a brother-in-law, M. A. Goodman, Jr. of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Pearson Fox, and three siblings, Faye Carraway, Glenn Ray Fox, and Betty Goodman.The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Bruce Walker officiating. Interment of the ashes will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends in the parish hall following the services.
