James “Jim” Fox, 78, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, July 27, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on September 10, 1935, he was the son of the late Ransom Fox and Eva Pearl Carswell Fox. Jim was a member of First Advent Christian Church. He was a retired warehouse supervisor with the City of Morganton with over 26 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Optimist Club and was very active in with the soap-box derby and the Optimist Concession Stand.

Jim is survived by his wife, Phyllis Beck Fox of the home; a daughter, Tracey Fowler and her husband, Kevin, of Connelly Springs, NC; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Chad Fowler; siblings, Doris Elizabeth Fox of Baltimore, MD, William Robert “Bob” Fox and his wife, Winnie, of Bridgewater, NC, and Frances Bumgarner and her husband, Jim, of Morganton; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special nephew, Todd Stillwell.

The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at First Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Patrick Bradshaw officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Advent Christian Church Building Fund, 211 Lenoir Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Southmountain Children and Family Services, 115 N. Sterling Street, Morganton, NC 28655.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements. 

The family would like to thank Carolina Health System of Grace Hospital doctors, the intensive care unit nursing staff, and the Sanger Heart Clinic staff for providing excellent care.
