James "Ed" Morris, 81, of Summers Rd., Morganton, NC died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Autumn Care of Drexel following a period of declining health. He was born April 24, 1927 in McDowell County, NC, and was a son of the late Marion Maxwell Morris and Mayheu Pritchard Morris. Mr. Morris was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, and a retired employee of Drexel Heritage Furniture Company.He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Bennett Morris of the home; a son, Joel B. Morris and wife, Kathy, and a granddaughter, Laurel Morris, all of Morganton; a brother, Earl Morris of Morganton; sisters, Edith White and husband, "Doc" of Morganton, Esther Green and Ethel Flowers, both of Glen Alpine, NC, Frances West and husband, Richard, and Gladys Brewer, all of Roanoke, VA; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a very special friend, Ed Thomas of Morganton.In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Morris.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas A. Bland officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
