James Dean Harney, 33, of Morganton passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 3, 2019.  Born in Burke County, NC on October 2, 1985, he was the son of Kenny Harney (Donna) of Morganton and Laura Davis Williams of Lenoir.  James was a member of Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church and worked at Woody’s Welding. While working as an auto mechanic at Jim’s Service Center, he developed special relationships with customers, both young and old. James was a selfless, patient, and humble man who never met a stranger. His favorite things in life included hiking, fishing, camping, video games, hip-hop music, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, patience, kind heart, and most of all, love for his family. 

In addition to his parents, James is survived by his brothers, Justin Clyde Williams, Lynn Davis Williams, Donny Dellinger, Bradley Dellinger, and Devin Hester; uncles, Larry Harney (Jolee) of Morganton, Tommy Harney (Jody) of Franklin, TN, and Perry Davis, Jr. (Dee Dee) of Morristown, TN; aunts, Linda Stephens (Bradley) of Morganton and Kelly Parlier (Mark) of Granite Falls; maternal grandparents, Nina Wood and Perry Davis, Sr.; step grandparents, Bruce and Betty Campbell of Morganton, NC; many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John E. Harney and Irene Lee Harney; uncle, Henry J. Harney; and cousin, Lee Stephens.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church with Rev. Yvonne Thurmond officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry Harney Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
