James Daniel Buff, 92, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Born in Burke County, NC on July 27, 1930, he was the son of the late Sanford Iverson Buff and Ruth Vastie Beaver Buff. James was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting or fishing. James retired from Hanes (Sara Lee) after many years of service.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Buff is survived by his children, Larry Buff (Lillie), Richard Buff (Linda), Sheila Stulls (Don), Cheryln Woody (Doug), Becky Buff, Thomas Holbrook (Diane), and James “Jimmy” Buff; daughter-in-law, Anita Sue Ott Buff; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his two sons, Jerry and Billy Buff; great-granddaughter, Cara F. Lane; and sister, Bonnie Swink Wyatt.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Terry Robinson and Pastor Douglas Woody officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
