James "Clyde" LaFevers, 98, of Asheville died, Friday, July 3, 2015. He was born January 29, 1917 in Burke County to the late James Henderson LaFevers and Della Lee Giles LaFevers. Clyde was a graduate of Glen Alpine High School class of 1953 and a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II and receiving a purple heart.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Maxine Kelly LaFevers; son, Keith Roger LaFevers; grandson, Kevin LaFevers; brothers, Ralph, Roy, Jack, Don, and Guy LaFevers; sisters, Eva Lonon and Elizabeth LaFevers; and longtime companion, Nell Chambers.
Clyde is survived by his son, Dennis LaFevers and his wife, Terri of Asheville; brother, Ned LaFevers and wife, Doris of Morganton; grandchildren, Lindsey Thomsson and husband, Stephen, Lucas LaFevers and wife, Meagan, Keith LaFevers and wife, Julie and Karen McPherson and husband, Shea; great-grandchildren, Keiven LaFevers, Fisher McPherson and Jallen LaFevers and a step-great-grandson, Dylan Adkins
A celebration of Clyde’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in the Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Ed Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in the Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park # 120, Asheville, NC 28801.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
