James Carl “Jim” Fisher, 86, of Morganton died Thursday, July 29, 2021.  Born in Burke County, NC on July 23, 1935, he was the son of the late Bennett H. Fisher and Etta Reep Fisher.  Jim was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was a veteran of the US Army.  Jim loved American Legion baseball and served as an announcer for many years.  He was president of the Trek Fun Club, a camping group, and he enjoyed traveling the world. He was a member of both Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217 and the Shrine Club for over 50 years.

Jim is survived by his wife, Janice Smith Fisher; children, Conlee Fisher Clark (Stewart), Bennett James Fisher (Michelle), John David Fisher, and Joseph Carl Fisher (Cindy); grandchildren, Lauryl Lackey, Kennedy Fisher, Reece Fisher, Gunnar Fisher, and Sadie Jane Fisher; great-grandchild, Trace Wilson; brother-in-law, Steve A. Smith; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two siblings, Bertie Lou Lane and Harold Bennett Fisher.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 2, 2021 at Burke Memorial Park with Pastor Paul Carlson officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, or to Carolina Caring.

The family would like to thank the home care staff, hospice house staff, and the staff at Catawba Valley Medical Services, especially Sharon Williams, for the excellent care provided to Jim.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
