Jack Watts, 74, of Morganton, NC died Monday, August 5, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Born in Burke County, NC on June 2, 1939, he was the son of the late John Furman Watts and Zela Chapman Watts. Jack was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.Mr. Watts is survived by his daughter, Janet Lawson and her husband, Mike, of Morganton; a son, Steven Watts and his wife, Lisa, of Morganton and their children, Broc and Blake; grandchildren, Kasey Miller and her husband, Jon, and Eli Lawson; brothers, William, Ervin, and Herman Watts of Morganton; sisters, Blanche Berry of Valdese, NC, Louella Wilson and her husband, Hank, of Morganton, and Betty Secrest and her husband, Eddie, of Drexel, NC; and a large number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Marie Franklin Watts; a brother, Ernest Watts; and a sister, Beulah Smith.A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Cemetery on Hwy 64. At other times and following the service, the family will gather at the home of the daughter, Janet Lawson.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southmountain Children’s Home, 7330 Myrtle Drive, Nebo, NC 28761.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
