J. C. Dellinger, 77, of the Longtown Community passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Burke Hospice after a long extended illness. He was born in Burke County on January 6, 1933 and was a son of the late Ben and Essie Flynn Dellinger. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. J.C. was also a great friend to many. J. C. was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He was a retired employee of Great Lakes Carbon Corporation, enjoyed many outdoor sports especially bear hunting, and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wonderful daughter, Terrie Revonda, a brother, Alvin Dellinger, and a sister, Lola Beatrice.J. C. is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Pearl Duckworth Dellinger. He is also survived by grandchildren, Misty Shane and her husband, Adam, of Hickory and Ben McGalliard and his wife, Kelly of Newport News, VA; great-grandchildren, Brittany of Spruce Pine and Shelby Brooke of Hickory; brothers, Ray Dellinger and his wife, Hazel and Carl Dellinger and his wife, Belle, all of the Lake James community; sisters, Dorothy Crooks and her husband, Jim, Laura Johnson and her husband, Johnny, all of the Lake James community, and Sue Chapman of Morganton.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Gyles Widner and Mr. Josh Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday one hour before the service. At other times the family will be at the residence.
