Ivey Simpson

Ivey Simpson, 91, of Morganton, NC, went to his heavenly home on Monday, October 3, 2022.

Born in Burke County, NC on December 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Frank E. Simpson and Evelyn Watson Simpson.  A man of deep Christian faith, Ivey was a devoted member of Bible Tabernacle in Rutherfordton.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family.  He enjoyed gardening and raised amazing tomatoes and watermelons.

Ivey is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Simpson Austin (Paul); grandchildren, Lisa Morgan, Doug Morgan, Sherry Taylor (Eric), Timmy Simpson, and Kenny Simpson, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Summer Benfield (David), Morgan Wilson, Timmy Simpson, Jr., Ashlynn Simpson, Micah Simpson, Samantha Owens (Cameron), Matthew Taylor, and Heather Morgan; nine great-great-grandchildren including Ivey’s special great-great-granddaughter, Kenlynn Wilson, who was so helpful in caring for him; daughter-in-law, Mary Simpson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Ivey was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Poteet Simpson; sons, Kenneth Simpson and Ivey “Dean” Simpson; granddaughter, Sandy Simpson; brother, Bobby Simpson; sisters, Vivian Beach and Annie Bradshaw; and a special friend, Lois Morgan.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Revs. Joseph Greene and Jerry Lingerfeldt officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
