Howard Lee Edney, 81, of Morganton died Wednesday, December 25, 2019. Born in Burke County, NC on November 9, 1938, he was the son of the late Carl Alfred Edney and Perdie Ann Smith Edney. Howard was a member of Hartland Missionary Methodist Church. He was retired Chief of Chesterfield Fire Department. Howard enjoyed caring for his family and friends and loved to share the bounty of his garden.
Mr. Edney is survived by his children, Richard Edney (Elizabeth), Wendy Greene (Jody), and Tony Edney; grandchildren, Rebecca Edney, Johnathan Edney, Destiny Greene, Dakoda Greene, and Dayden Greene, Skyler Edney, and Brenda Edney; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Branch (Bobby); and his canine companion, Corky.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Brenda Lowman Edney; second wife, Rebecca Saunder Edney; and third wife, Dorothy “Dot” Edney.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2019 at Hartland Missionary Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Revs. Danny Carr and Adam Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
