Horace “Elmer” Williams, 90 of Morganton, died on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC.
He was born in Burke County, NC on November 24, 1923 to the late James Harley Williams and Naomi Julie Sigmon Williams. Horace was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was dedicated to his church where he served as trustee and was on numerous other committees. He loved to garden, work on lawnmowers, and loved bluegrass music.
Horace is survived by a daughter, Denise W. Mostiller and husband, Marvin of Morganton; a grandson, Matthew G. Mostiller of Morganton; siblings, Frances Powell, Jerry Williams and wife Carolyn of Valdese; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Horace was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Mae Mull Williams; daughter, Lisa Annette Williams; an infant daughter; and siblings, Martha Jo Powell and Colene Cannon.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Burke Memorial Park. Military rites will be given by the NC National Guard. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Amy Freeze and Dr. Jeffrey Beach officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
