Hershel L. Huffman, 85, of Morganton passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013 at his residence. Born in Smyth County, VA on December 10, 1927, he was the son of the late Daniel Brack Huffman and Dulcie Combs Huffman. Hershel was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He moved to Morganton 10 years ago to stay with his son and family after his wife passed away.Mr. Huffman is survived by his son, Robert Huffman and his wife, Debra, of Morganton and Danny Huffman of North Carolina; grandchildren, Robbie Huffman and wife, Bao, and Heather Howell and husband, Harry; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ernest Huffman of Pennsylvania, Russell Huffman of Virginia, and Blaine Huffman of Virginia.In addition to his parents, Hershel was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Zittle Huffman, and his daughter, Brenda Roop.The graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2013 at Laurel Valley Cemetery in Konnarock, VA. with the Reverend Jerry Fritz officiating. Military honors will be provided by the VA National Guard and Highlands Veterans Ceremonial Team The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
