Herman Marshall Scott, 88, of Morganton, NC died Friday, September 20, 2013 at his residence. Born in Burke County, NC on August 18, 1925, he was the son of the late John Marshall Scott and Lillie Mae Penley Scott. Herman was a US Army veteran of WWII and owned and operated Dixie Cab for over 60 years. In recent years he attended Harvest Praise Church.A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Vonnie Gallion Scott of the home; a son, Joe Rogers and his wife, Barbara, of Morganton; a grandson, Joe Rogers, Jr. and his wife, Theresa, of Morganton; great-granddaughters, Chelsea McCoy and Tamara Coffey; great-great-granddaughters, Jaycee McCoy and Kendall Coffey (who is due in November); a sister, Ruth Reinhardt of Asheboro, NC; and a number of nephews, nieces, and friends.In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest, Thomas, Mark, Charlie and Paul Scott; sisters, Mary Jordan and Sarah Scott; a half-brother, James Scott; and a half-sister, Della Fox.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Capell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
