Herbert "Gene" Davis 76, of US 64, Morganton, died Monday, April 25, 2011. Mr. Davis was born on May 3, 1934 in Edgecombe County to the late William Thomas Davis and Eliza Ellis Davis. He was a member of Nowlings Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister; Barbara Davis, and brothers; Marvin and Billy Davis.Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Marjorie Talton Davis; daughters, Lillie Anderson of Austin ,TX and Linda Davis of Houston, TX; a son, Ricky Davis of Junction, TX; step-daughters, Yvonne Johnson of Pilot Mountain, NC and Shannon Hicks of Summerville, SC; step-sons, David and Phillip O’Connell of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Sara Wright and Lois Hewitt both of Chapel Hill, NC and Mary Davis of Vass, NC; and brothers, Charlie Davis of Carrboro, NC and Wren Davis of Graham, NC.A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Nowlings Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to Nowlings Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 5061 US 64, Morganton, NC 28655.
