Helga Maria Peterson, 82, died Monday, November 2, 2009 at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba County. Mrs. Peterson was born March 17, 1927, in Berlin, Germany to the late Karl Julis Loch and Maria Vollertsen Loch. Mrs. Peterson survived WW II and the bombing of Berlin, soon after meeting her future husband, the late Maynard Everett Peterson. Choosing to be an American, she was very proud of her American citizenship. Mrs. Peterson loved her family and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She also enjoyed cooking and was of the Lutheran faith.Mrs. Peterson is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Batts and her husband, Dr. Mark Batts of Morganton; grandchildren, Stefanie Batts attending Veterinarian School in Stillwater, OK and Jason Batts of Morganton; and a brother, Dr. Werner Loch of New Beckum, Germany.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Beth Ann Miller officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Inurnment will be at Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.
