Helen Walker

Helen Walker, 81, a long-time resident of Morganton, NC died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Grace Heights Nursing Home from congestive heart failure. Born in Burke County, NC on December 23, 1931, she was the daughter of the late George B. Bradshaw and Leila B. Bradshaw. Helen married and divorced George Prestwood and later married Jim Walker, who died in an accident in 1975. She moved from North Carolina to Pontiac, Michigan, where she built a successful florist company, before relocating to North Carolina where she lived out her life.Mrs. Walker loved good food and flowers, and in her later years, spending time with her two grandchildren. She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.Helen was the last of nine children and is survived by her son, Allen Dale and his wife, Yvette, of McLean, VA; and grandsons, Alexander and Christopher Dale.The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home.
