Helen Ray Baker

Helen Ray Baker, 83, of Morganton, NC passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Born on January 12, 1934 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Allen Cogdell and Rebecca Hoyle Cogdell.
Helen was of the Baptist faith. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed. She loved her great-great-granddaughter, Emmy.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Shirley Kate McLean and Karen Elizabeth Carswell and husband, Paul; sons, Charles Stanley Baker and wife, Robin and Roger Dale Baker; and sister, Agnise Cogdell. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by son, Thomas Ray Baker; siblings, Etta Hoyle, Odell Cogdell, Betty Joe Pope, Georgie Lee Chapman, and Claude Cogdell; and two grandsons.
The receiving of friends will be from 2 – 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Webb and Pastor Billy Cogdell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
