Helen Marie Saunders Hallyburton

Helen Marie Saunders Hallyburton, 91, of Morganton, NC passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026 following a period of declining health. She was born on March 24, 1935 in Burke County to the late James Russell Saunders and Ethel Clark Saunders. She was a member of North Morganton United Methodist Church. Helen was retired from Southern Devices. She was a cancer survivor and active in Relay for Life. Helen loved to garden and especially enjoyed picking and sharing blueberries.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, James Furman Hallyburton; sisters, Azalee, Viola, and Mae; brothers, Bruce and Earl.

Helen is survived by son, Robin Hallyburton (Connie); daughter, Roxanne Hallyburton Scroggs; grandchildren, Nicholas Alexander Scroggs (Megan), Andrea Hallyburton Rhyder (Chris), and Matthew Buchanan (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Anzlee, Harry and Remy; sister, Linda Saunders; brothers, James Saunders and Donald Saunders (Brenda).

A graveside service will begin at 11:30am, Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at Burke Memorial Park with Rev. David Orders officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and doctors at the Shaire Center.
