Helen H. Pope

Helen H. Pope, 79, of Patton St., Morganton, NC died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Grace Heights following a period of declining health. Born in McDowell Co., WV on November 12, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Coy Spears and Lillie Belle Spears. Helen was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed reading and writing. A dedicated lady, Helen taught Sunday school for over thirty years.A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Rev. Ted Pope of the home; a son, Teddy Pope and wife, Laura, of Morganton; a brother, Ronnie Voshall of Portsmouth, VA; sisters, Carrie Belle Burris and Linda Kay Potteat, both of Portsmouth; grandsons, Nicholas and Dylan Pope; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by a sister, Teensy Wilson.The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Burke Memorial Park with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. At other times the family will be at the residence, 403 Patton St., Morganton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Library Fund, P.O. Drawer 459, Morganton, NC 28680 or to the Burke County Public Library, 204 S. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
