Hazel Ray Buff, 84, of Valdese died Thursday, December 26, 2019.  Born in Cleveland County, NC on April 30, 1935, he was the son of the late Cleveland Peter Buff and Bedie Liza Buff.  He served in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1958 and was a dedicated member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.  He was a kind, loving man who always put God and family first.  Ray was best known for having a smile on his face and the willingness to put others’ needs before his own.

Mr. Buff is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Buff; son, Scott Buff (Erin); daughter, Lisa Ross (Terry); grandchildren, Chandler Rowe, Caden Buff, Elizabeth Taylor (Bo), and Jake Ross; a great-grandchild, Bristol Taylor; brother, James Buff; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mary Katlyn Ross; sister, Ann Willis; and brothers, J.C. and Quinton Buff.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Solid Rock Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Stacey Layne officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

At other times the family will be at the home.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Burke Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Mr. Buff.
