Hazel Margretta Mashburn, 78, of Morganton, NC went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. She was born in Haywood County, NC on March 16, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Harvey Emmit Mashburn and Margretta Smiley Mashburn. Hazel grew up attending Laurel Hill Baptist Church and attended several other Baptist churches. She retired from Carolina Shoe after 26 years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Earl, Jimmy, and Harvey, Jr. Mashburn; and sisters, Gladys Bowen, Dorothy Buchanan, and Geneva Penson.
Hazel is survived by her sisters, Thelma Morton and Sharon Crisp both of Morganton. In addition to her sisters there are many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2017 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Mashburn officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
