Harry "Pete" Jarrett, 78, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Burke County on March 14, 1934 and was a son of the late Samuel David Jarrett and Flossie Marie Brittain Jarrett. Pete owned and operated his own trucking business and also drove for many area trucking companies. He enjoyed riding his bicycle on the Greenway, canoeing on the Catawba River, and riding his motorcycle. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Propst Jarrett; sons, Harry S. Jarrett, Jr. and wife, Stephanie, of Morganton and Larry K. Jarrett and fiancée, Roxie, of Glen Alpine; daughters, Gay Jarrett Hoover of Rutherford College, Lisa Jarrett McCall and husband, Steve, of Morganton, and Crystal Jarrett Suttles and husband, Rick, of Glen Alpine; sister, Iris Fleming of Morganton; grandchildren, Heidi Nutter and husband, Deric, Casey McCall and wife, Sara, Jessica J. Feimster and husband, Ashley, Kayley J. Walker and husband, Nick, Ricky Suttles, Lucas Jarrett, Cheyenne Jarrett, and Tessa Suttles; great-grandchildren, Emmalee Nutter, Brooklyn Hodge-Ledford, Elizabeth McCall, and Talen Walker; three step-grandchildren; three step- great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Ledford; son-in-law, Doug Hoover; brothers, Dave and Charlie Jarrett; and sisters, Ellen Jaynes and Charlotte Minor.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
