Harry John “Jack” Dilworth, 80, of Morganton, NC, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022, following a period of declining health. 

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 10, 1941, Jack was the son of the late Harry Levis Dilworth and Florence Totham Dilworth and a member of First Advent Christian Church in Morganton, NC. In 1959, Jack graduated from Unionville High School in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. With a lifelong passion for horticulture both as a hobby and vocation, Jack worked as a supervisor in the renowned Conservatory at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. His work in landscaping is still visible today in locations throughout North Carolina including Carowinds Theme Park and his own beloved home garden. Jack was also employed by the City of Charlotte and Morganton Dye and Finishing prior to his retirement from Broughton Hospital. He was a lover of history, reading, and took pride in his participation in the Little League World Series at age 12. 

Jack is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sheila Phillips Dilworth; sons, John Dilworth (Mary) and Thomas Stewart; daughter, Janet Dilworth; stepdaughter, Angela Bradshaw (Patrick); grandchildren, Timothy Williams, Daniel Williams, Dane Stewart, and Drew Bradshaw; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Dilworth, James Dilworth and Robert Dilworth; sister, Virginia Scholl; an aunt and uncles; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Stewart. 

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022 at First Advent Christian Church with the funeral to be held at noon in the sanctuary with the Revs. Patrick Bradshaw and Barry Camp officiating.  Burial will follow at the Church of Jesus Christ Cemetery in Newland, NC.
