Harry Joe Powell, 80 years and 8 days old of Morganton, NC passed away, Monday, December 6, 2021. Born on November 28, 1941, he was the son of the late McCoy Alfred Powell and Anna Mae Griffin Powell.
Harry was a skilled craftsman in his trade, a carpenter for nearly 50 years. He was accurate, precise, and detailed in every measure of his work and life. He enjoyed being outdoors and always working on the current home or wood working project, all the while planning the next. Harry took a simple house and worked on it through the years, building it into a home for his family, always diligently providing. He was a simple and humble man of modest means and succeeded in helping to raise four loving children who are carrying on many of his positive character traits today in their lives. How dearly you will be missed, we all love you!
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Vilma Magtajas Powell; daughters, Alisa Williams (Michael), Jana Barlowe (Steve); sons, Todd Powell (Shaun), Brad Powell (Lisa); grandchildren, Chelsea, Seth, Elizabeth, Alex, Branson, Hunter, Carson, Anniston, and Cade; great-grandchildren, Anya and Rowan; sister, Patricia Hedrick (Frank); nieces, Lisa and Darlene.
In addition to his parents, Harry is preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Powell.
There will be a private graveside service for Mr. Powell.
Memorials In Harry Powell’s name may be given to Amorem Hospice (formerly Burke Hospice).
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
