Harriet Yount Norman, 89, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 5, 2024.

Born in Burke County, NC on September 24, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Yount and Rosetta Epley Yount. Harriet was a lifelong member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church. She was a master baker and cake decorator, and she made many wedding and birthday cakes over the years. She retired from Broughton Hospital with over 20 years of service and helped as a caregiver for many family members. Harriet enjoyed playing the piano and gardening, but she most enjoyed spending time with her family.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Harriet is survived by her children, Gerald Wesley Norman (Teena) and Anita Norman Rector (Billy); grandchildren, Jeremy Norman (Dorothy), Heather Rector, and Dylan Rector (Andrea); great-grandchildren, Emberly Norman, Luna Norman, Jayla Rector, Landon Rector, Dominick Rector, Willow Rector, and Ivy Rector; siblings, Vergie Walker and Edward Yount (Diane); sister-in-law, Marie Yount; numerous nieces nephews, and extended family; and her fur-baby, Bandit.

In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Wesley Norman; granddaughter, Amanda Danielle Norman; and two siblings, Charles (Shirley) and George Yount.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2024 at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at noon in the church with Rev. Dr. Darren Browning and Rev. Chris Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers and Via Health Partners for the wonderful care provided to Harriet and giving her the ability to stay at home.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

FOR MY GRACEFUL AND SWEET SPIRITED CHRISTIAN FRIEND; I KNEW YOU FOR 8 YEARS--SOME OF THE MOST MEMORABLE ONES OF MY LIFE. YOU WERE SUCH A BLESSING TO ME. THOSE BEAUTIFUL ALWAYS SMILING EYES AND YOUR NATURAL HUMOR SEEMED TO BRING A COMFORT TO ME. YOUR SWEET CHRISTIAN SPIRIT MADE A HUGE IMPRESSION ON ME--IT GAVE ME HOPE THAT I COULD LEARN TO BE LIKE YOU. IT WAS AN HONOR TO SPEND TIME WITH YOU. IT IMPRESSED ME HOW LOYAL AND ENTHUSIASTIC YOU WERE IN YOUR BIBLE STUDY. YOU LIVED YOUR LIFE ACCORDINGLY.--KINDLY AND GENEROUSLY THINKING OF OTHERS. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOUR KINDNESS OF MAKING ME MY FAVORITE STRAWBERRY BIRTHDAY CAKE BECAUSE AS YOU SAID I HAD NO ONE ELSE TO DO IT. IT WOULD CREATE SUCH A WARM FEELING IN MY HEART WHEN YOU ALWAYS CALLED TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS ADVISING I NEEDED TO GET ON OVER THERE AND HELP GET THE HOUSE AND DESSERTS READY FOR YOUR FAMILY ---ALL THEIR FAVORITES MUST BE FIXED. OF COURSE WE COULD NOT FORGET GERALD AND JADA'S FAVORITE GCOCONUT CAKE. YOU WOULD BE SO EXCITED BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN YOUR MUCH LOVED FAMILY WOULD BE HAVING A PARTY WITH YOU. I SAW THE LOVE IN YOUR EYES WHENEVER YOU SPOKE OF THEM . OH WHAT A CRAZY TIME WE HAD LAUGHING , SINGING AND DANCING TO CHRISTMAS CAROLS. I FEEL A LOSS IN MY HEART, BUT I KNOW THE LORD SAW YOU GETTING WEARY--SO HE DID WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS BEST. HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND YOU AND WHISPERED COME AND REST. REST IN PEACE MY PRECIOUS FRIEND UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN. KAREN ROLLINS

Harriet was one of the most wonderful people we ever were privileged to know. We loved her and she loved us. She and my dad were the best of friends and looked forward to spending time together for around 8 years. She was with him until the day he passed. We will never forget her loving kindness. Daddy loved her and her family. We know you will miss such a special gem. She is with the Lord now. You have our condolences. May God give you peace, comfort and strength in the coming days.
