Harriet Wiik Merrell, 81, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, January 31, 2016. Born in Wisconsin on June 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Thure Ferdinan Wiik and Helen West Wiik. Harriet was a devoted member of Morganton Seventh-day Adventist Church where she was a Sabbath School Teacher, a worship service song leader and a master guide of the Pathfinders. For many years she was a member of Table Rock Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was a former employee of Shadowline and Holiday Inn, and she was a retired dietician of Broughton Hospital. Harriet was an avid flower gardener. She loved to bake and decorate cakes for the special occasions of family and friends.

Harriet is survived by her sons, Davy Wynn of Clarksville, TN and John Allen Merrell of Morganton; a daughter, Tracy A. Merrell of Morganton; grandchildren, Tammy Harley, Jennifer Landgren, Dustin McCurry, John Merrell, Jr., Robert Merrell, Anthony Saunders, Vanessa Saunders, and Madison Cannon; great-grandchildren, Damian McCurry, Raylin Merrel, Anthony Landgren, Sage Harley, Colby Harley, Sophie Saunders, Braxton Welborn, and Brailyn Welborn; many adopted “children”; a brother, Alfred Wiik of Hendersonville, NC; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by siblings, Geraldine Henon, Albin Wiik, Lois Dale, and Roy Wiik.

The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Morganton Seventh-day Adventist Church. The funeral will be held at the church at 2 p.m. with Mr. Ted Brackett, Elder Barry Mahorney, and Elder Rick Mercer officiating. Burial will follow at Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery.
