Harold V. "Toodie" Coffey, 85, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in Burke County, NC on July 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Frank Richard Coffey and Maggie Lee Brown Coffey. Toodie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and played bass for the church. Harold loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed gospel music and sang bass in several quartets.Harold is survived by his wife, Gladys P. "Sissie" Burns Coffey of the home; daughters, Rhonda Fulbright and her husband, Mike, of Maiden, NC and Susie Edwards and her husband, John, of Morganton; grandchildren, Leslie Kiser and her husband, Heath, of Maiden, Michael Fulbright of Newton, NC, Lynsey Hanson and her husband, Michael, of Granite Falls, NC, and Amanda Edwards of Huntersville, NC; great-grandchildren, Jaiden Kiser, Kaley Kiser, and Ashtyn Kiser; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Toodie was preceded in death by his sisters, Flossie, Pat, Myrtle, Leva, Beatrice, Bonnie, and Irene; and two brothers, Herndon and Earl.The funeral will be held at 3:30 pm, Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church with the Reverends Clarence Correll and Charlie Crump officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 2441 Antioch Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
