Harold “Glenn” Winters, 69, of Morganton went to his heavenly home on Friday, October 12, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on November 22, 1948, he was the son of the late Glen Alfred Winters and Wilma Hoover Winters.  Glenn was an active member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.  Mr. Winters was a veteran of the NC National Guard and retired from the Burke County School System with 30 years of service as a teacher and coach.  He was an avid bass fisherman and competed in numerous fishing tournaments.  He also enjoyed golf, was a member of the Morganton Elks Lodge, and was an avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels, Atlanta Braves, and Elon University.  In 2013 he was inducted into the Glen Alpine Sports Hall of Fame and his picture and letter jacket are on display in the Green Wave Restaurant in Glen Alpine.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 45 years, Renée Hodge Winters of the home; son, Scott McKenzie Winters of Morganton; brother, David Winters of Marion; special uncle and aunt, Jack and Nell Hollifield; special cousin, Annie Hollifield; and many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Winters.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.  A celebration of Glenn’s life will follow at 4 p.m. in the church with the Revs. Barbara Mayo and David Duncan officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard.
