Harmon Claude Ollis, 92, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly Sunday, April 15, 2012, while at Grace Hospital. He was born on July 1, 1919 in Avery County and was a son of the late Council Vernon Ollis and Dixie Florence Wise Ollis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lealon, Arnold, Clyde, and Lawrence Ollis. Mr. Ollis was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired machine operator at Henredon and Drexel Furniture factories. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Ollis was a member of Linville United Methodist Church.Survivors include his wife of seventy-four years, Lillie Ann Ollis of the home; daughters, Eudine Beck and husband, Leroy, of Nebo and Joanne Epley and husband, Raymond, of Morganton; brother, Hayes Ollis and wife, Nadine, of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Susan Beck-Williams and husband, Mark, of Rural Hall, NC, Robin Henson of Nebo, and Russell Epley and wife, Shanda, and Becky Shehan and husband, Bobby, all of Morganton; and great-grandchildren, Lindsay Henson of Greenville, NC, Riley Shehan, Kylea Shehan, Lillie Katherine Epley, and Caroline Epley all of Morganton.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Linville United Methodist Church with Reverends Neil F. Brantley, Jr. and Betty Henson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the church fellowship hall.Memorial contributions may be made to Linville United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3625 Fish Hatchery Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
