Hannie Owens left this life to go to her heavenly home Friday, April 9. She was born on April 1, 1931 as one of eleven children to Annie and Tellis Whisnant. She is survived by her brother, Ronnie (Dinah) Whisnant, who has watched over her the past five years.
She married Ralph Owens in 1950. They had four children: Rick (Kathy) Owens, Reggie (Joan) Owens, Rita Putnum, and Robert Owens who died shortly after birth.
Ralph’s career took the family to Virginia, California and Illinois. When Ralph retired, they moved back to Morganton, NC to be close to family. They loved being home and around family. They also rejoined Zion Baptist Church. Ralph passed away in 2004.
Hannie loved her family, especially the little ones. She helped raise three generations as Mom, Grandma and Great-grandma. She leaves behind her three loving children, eight grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.
We would like to say a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Grace Heights who took care of Mom the past four years. She loved you and felt at home there.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, April 13 at Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will follow in the church at noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Zion Baptist Church, Morganton, NC.
