H. Ray McCoy, 76, of Morganton died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his residence. Born in Dixon County, VA on May 22, 1936, he was the son of the late James Harrison McCoy and Grace Holdbrook McCoy. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God. Ray was a kind and gentle man who loved to fish, especially for carp. He was loved very much and will be missed by his family and friends.Ray is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Jones McCoy of the home; a son, Roger McCoy and his wife, Michelle, of Morganton; daughter, Janet Metcalf and her husband, Ronnie, of Easley, SC; grandchildren, Tripp Metcalf, Spencer Metcalf, and Graham McCoy; one great-granddaughter, Callie Rae Metcalf; step-children, Michael Cook of Hickory, Tim Cook of Connelly Springs, Debbie Bridges of Valdese, Angela Honeycutt of Lenoir, and Tammy Wright of Valdese; seven step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Faye Rasnick, O.C. McCoy and his wife, Rhonda, and Sam McCoy and his wife, Susan, and special friends, Wayne "Cowboy" Kinley, Hyland Fox, Keith Berry, and Ernest Maloney.’

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by siblings, Grady McCoy, Junior McCoy, Riley McCoy, and Belle Goodin; and a step-son, Sammy Cook.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Howerton officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Assembly of God Cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard.
