Gloria Elizabeth Banner Turbyfill, 77, of Morganton, NC passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012. Born in Avery County, NC on August 16, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Zachary Greene and Nettie McKinney Greene Benfield. Gloria was a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church. She was a wonderful homemaker and a loving mother. Using her wit and courage, she was a cheerleader for everyone.Gloria is survived by her husband, Clay Turbyfill of the home; sons, Lester Wayne Banner of Cleveland, OH, Robert Newton Banner of Fort Lauderdale, FL and New York City, NY, and Alan E. Banner and wife, Debra, of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Jina Shea Banner of Wilmington, NC and Alisan Banner of Columbia, and Donald, Angela, Teresa, David, Dallas, and Montana, all of Ohio; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Benfield of Morganton and Stanley Greene of Rockledge, FL; a sister, Virginia Bivens of Morganton; step-children, Doris Turbyfill of Morganton and Jane Dembnicki of Southern Pines, NC; and three step-great-grandchildren, Lacey Powell, Terry Moore, and Toby Turbyfill.In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her first husband, David Banner; three brothers, Bobby Benfield, Tom Benfield, and Dewey Greene; and a sister, Frances Burgin.The funeral will be held at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. John McCarty officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. prior to the service. The graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday in Montezuma Cemetery in Newland, NC.
