Glen ‘Perry” Davis, 70, of Morganton passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018 at his residence.  Born in Avery County, NC on April 25, 1948, he was the son of the late Benjamin Gola Davis and Mae Guinn Davis.  Perry was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts from two different lieutenants.

Perry worked for Champion Paper and retired from International Paper.  He loved to be outdoors, especially gardening, fishing, and camping.  He never met a stranger.

Perry is survived by his son, Randy Davis of Connelly Springs; daughter, Melinda Roxana Johnson and husband, Matthew, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; brother, Paul Gene Davis and Eddie “Bud” Davis; and friend, Dereama Duckworth.

In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by brothers, James “Jimmy” Davis and Clifford Allen “Sonnie” Davis; and sisters, Louise Holden and Carol Winters.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will follow at 5 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Mark Horne and Chaplain Mike Costner officiating.  The graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13 in Mollie Guinn Cemetery in Elk Park, NC.  Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard.
