Gladys Patton Moses, 87, of Morganton left this world to go to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 while surrounded by her family.  Born in Burke County, NC on October 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ronnie Patton and Evelyn Kiser Patton.

Gladys was a member of Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.  She loved the Lord and was a devoted pastor’s wife.  Gladys was a loving wife, mother, and nanny to her family and will be greatly missed by all.

Mrs. Moses is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rev. Jack Moses of the home; daughters, Dianne Sparks and husband, Dirk, of Morganton, Debbie Bess and husband, Mel, of Connelly Springs, and Donna Davis and husband, Randy, of Morganton; son, Jeff Moses and wife, Pam, of Morganton; grandchildren, Danya Costner Moody and fiancé, Nick Miller, Nathaniel Jackson and wife, Amy, Matthew Davis, Amanda Moses Hewitt and husband, J.P., and Samantha Moses Lowdermilk and husband, Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Brandon Moody, Shawn Moody, Ethan Miller, and Kennedy Jackson; sisters, Mabel Carswell and husband, Sanford, Voneta Hensley and husband, Rev. Dan, and Goldie Combs and husband, Rev. Larry; brothers, James Patton and wife, Shirley, and Randolph Patton and wife, Libby; sister-in-law, Viola Moses; numerous nephews and nieces; and 5 step-siblings.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shanda Smith; grandson, Cody Davis; brothers, Edmur and Thurman Patton; and sisters, Alice Patton and Geneva Austin Norville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Darvy Hensley and Marty Bess officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burke County Special Olympics, c/o Stingrays Swim Team.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
