Gladys Marguerite Morris Harbison Corpening, 95, of Morganton, NC, lovingly known as Ms. Bunch, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, March 18, 2017. She was born in Burke County on July 4, 1921 to the late Albert Morris and Annie Wakefield Morris. She was a member of Mars Hill AME Church and was the Mother of the Church. She was very active with the church until her health began to fail. She was a former member of Green St. Presbyterian Church and of the Burke County NAACP where she served as the first secretary. Mrs. Corpening was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis Harbison; second husband, Charles Corpening; son, Edward (Mickey) Harbison, Sr., James (Nukum) Harbison, Robert Harbison; daughter, Annie Harbison; stepson, Charlie Harbison; grandson, Tony Johnson; two great- grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence, Charles and Mason Morris; sister, Mamie Morris Bridges.

She is survived by her niece, Gladys Lytle, of Morganton, (whom she raised as a daughter); grandchildren, Edward Harbison Jr. (Rodgerlee), of VA, Angela Robertson (Bobby) of Morganton, and Jevon Morris (Adriana) of Morganton, all who were her caregivers; grandchildren, George Harbison, Harriet Wadley, Albert Felder (April) of Lenoir, Vincent Harbison (Bonnie) of PA, William Conley, Quincy Johnson, Calvin Harbison, Freda Harbison, Myra Harbison, Sandra Dula and Curtis Lytle; two special nieces, Cameron Walker and Australia McArdle; nieces, Doris Connelly and Dorothy Fullwood; special cousin, Audrey C. Gwynn; a special friend, Daniel Corpening: twenty-seven great-grandchildren; fifteen great great-grandchildren; one great great great-grandchild; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 24, 2017 from 11:00 to 12:00pm at Mars Hill AME Church. The service will begin at 12:00pm at the church with Rev. and Mrs. H. S. Williams, Pastors. The burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mars Hill AME Church, c/o Anita Lloyd, 2695 Playmore Beach Rd., Lenoir, NC 28645.
