Gladys Estelle Ross

Gladys Estelle Ross, 90, of Morganton, NC, died Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Grace Hospital. Born June 21, 1924 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Dellie Ray Ross and Cora Irene Shuping Ross. She was a retired employee of Broughton Hospital and was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church. An accomplished cook and seamstress, she always was available to help friends and family in their times of need. Gladys was the backbone of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Conley and Thurman Ross and by sisters, Mildred Ross Smith and Beatrice Ross Conley.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Jane Ross Pike of Beaufort, SC; brothers, William Luther "Bill" Ross and his wife, Minnie and Joseph Franklin "Frank" Ross and his wife Betty all of Morganton; a special niece, Judy Smith Carswell; other nieces and nephews, Peggy Smith Tucker; Kenneth and Gary Ross, Shelia Ross, Tammy Gill, Jamie Ross, and Joey Ross, Jane Pike Miller and Jim Pike, Bobby Ross, Cynthia Ross Goins and Ted Clark; and a number of loving great nieces and great nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Burkemont Baptist Church with the Reverends Burl Sain and Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service. Memorial gifts may be made to Burkemont Baptist Church, 4668 Burkemont Rd., Morganton, NC  28655.
