Gill “Pat” Ross, 69, of Morganton, NC peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Born in Burke County, NC on May 11, 1947, he was the son of the late Sylvester Calvin Ross and Nellie Mae Poteet Ross.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.  He worked as a butcher at A & P and Food Lion, and he retired from Bi-Lo in Morganton.  He loved going to Lake James and fishing.

Pat is survived by his wife of 50 years, Geneva Avery Ross of the home; children, Steve Ross and his wife, Leah, and Tammy Ross, all of Morganton; a brother, Fred Ross and his wife, Yasuko, of Denver, CO; a sister, Jeanette R. Beck and her husband, Julius, of Morganton; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Wilson and her husband, Dan.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Morganton Freedom Church of God.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Pastor Todd Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard.
