Gertrude Anderson Simpson, 88, of Glen Alpine, NC, died Wednesday, August 28th, 2019. Born in Burke County, NC August 11th, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Guthrie P. Anderson and Oree Graham Anderson. Gertrude was a member of Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday school. She retired from Henredon Furniture as a customer service representative and was a member of the Glen Alpine Women’s Club. She was Mrs. Turkey Tail multiple times, served on the Glen Alpine Town Council, and had served as mayor pro tem.
Gertrude is survived by her grandchildren, Jeremy Simpson (Chrystal) of Gretna, VA and Leslie George (Kevin) of Taylorsville; great-grandchildren, Kamden George, Keaton George, Kinsley Simpson, and Ava Graye Simpson; brothers, Graham “Pee Wee” Anderson and Kenneth R. Anderson; and sister, Luana Duckworth-Cooper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Graham Simpson, Sr.; and son, Edgar “Eddie” Simpson, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, September 1st, 2019 at Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. in the church with Revs. Cris Uren and Neil George officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to give special thanks to Janice Laws and Brenda Chatham George for being special caregivers.
