Gerald G. Queen, 87, of Drexel, NC, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017. He was born on November 27, 1929 in Burke County to the late Junie Jameson Queen and Minnie Evans Queen Fleming. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1948-1952 as a Tec Sargent. He worked at Drexel Heritage Furniture for 39 years and at the end of his career was a Sales Representative in four states. He was a dedicated member of Drexel First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He served two terms as an Alderman for the town of Drexel. A loving husband and father, Gerald enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean Patton Queen; step-father, Glen Fleming; brother, Bill E. Queen.
He is survived by his children, Bruce Queen and wife, Marga, Kirk Queen, Michelle Queen and Susan Queen Reikowski and husband, Jake; grandchildren, Marissa Queen, Alex Queen, Dylan Reikowski and Emily Reikowski; siblings, Betty Queen Ramsey and husband, Gwynn, Grant Queen and wife, Elizabeth, and Jeanne Fleming Stegall and husband, Ralph; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm, Friday, May 12, 2017 at Drexel First Baptist Church. The service will be at 2:00 pm at the church with the Rev. Michael Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. Military honors will be conducted by the North Carolina National Guard. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Drexel First Baptist Church, PO Box 308, Drexel, NC 28619.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
