Gene Campbell, 67, of Morganton, NC, gained his heavenly wings on Friday, February 24, 2023.

Born in Burke County, NC on November 18, 1955, he was the son of the late Hugh Gene Campbell and Shirley Ailene McGalliard Campbell.

He was a member of Victory Life Assembly of God where he served as a deacon. He worked at Broughton Hospital, retired from FedEx, and owned and operated Gene’s Paint and Body. He enjoyed repairing vehicles and riding motorcycles with his wife and son. He loved to make people laugh and spend time with his grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen Rockett Campbell; son, Colt Campbell; daughters, Melissa Campbell Smith (Ronnie) and Tonya Campbell; grandchildren, Blaze, Brayden, and Braxton Smith; brother, Alan Campbell; sister, Karen S. Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Christina Campbell Morrow; and sister-in-law, Betty Coates Campbell.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Revs. Mike Whisnant and Dale Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Smart’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2608, Morganton, NC 28680 to assist with funeral expenses.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

So sorry for you loss I just found out from a friend that Gene had past Makes me so sad I went to school with Gene and we hung out a lot and wore the streets of Morganton out back in the day Lots of good memories May The Good Lord wrap his loving arms around you all and comfort you during this and for days to come
